Bad Luck

Authors Note: This piece is about the book “Sarah Bishop. This piece is about the main conflicts in the story. I explain what the conflicts were and how they did not get resolved.

Sarah is a 15 year old orphan. She didn’t start out like one though.  She had a family. A big family; a big brother and a father. They were happy together even though Sarah’s brother and father would always fight about King George. Unfortunately, both Chad (Sarah’s brother) and her dad died. She then became an orphan because of what happened.  In the book, Sarah Bishop, there are 2 main conflicts: person vs. person, and person vs. nature.

After Sarah Bishop’s family died there was a fire, and Sarah was accused of it. This is how one of the conflicts in the book is person vs. person. Sara didn’t start the fire. She never would have. She is not like that. She also was accused of being a witch in the end of the book because everyone thought that if she lived in a cave with strange animals she was a witch. Sarah was 15! She was not a witch. She didn’t look like one either. A quote that shows this is” They think thee is a witch, which thee is not’ said the Quaker”. This quote shows that people thought different of her and thought she was not what she was. Another conflict in the book is person vs. nature. This is a conflict because Sara, as I said before, lives in a cave. She has to survive in this cave and make it her home. There are some rough times, for example when she got bit by a Copperhead. Her hand started to swell and got blue. Though, she lived long enough in the cave to know what she should do. She got through that issue and many others.

            The conflicts in this book do not resolve. Sarah Bishop had a very weird ending. You would have thought that she would have got adopted or something along those lines but she didn’t. The book ended with Sarah still living in the cave and still fighting with the people who accused her of being a witch. She was still on the run because she thought the British would come after her. Sarah is still the same girl she was in the beginning of the book, just in a different setting. The problems in this book continue on. They never ended and probably never will.
