Who Says?

Author’s Note: This is a piece demonstrating the traits of a text analysis essay. In this piece, I explain why two popular books have similar ideas.

Did you know 63% of all people that read both books, Matched and the Hunger Games rated Hunger Games better? Even though these books have similar plots, Hunger Games came out the best. Both these plots have to do with controlling governments.  What are they hiding? Why do they need so much power? Obviously, these books show the characteristics of related plots.

To begin with, Matched was about a teenager girl (Cassia) who never had a choice. Her food was picked for her, her clothing, her job, and even her husband. On the day her government chooses her husband, it turns out to be her best friend, Xander. She is at first happy but something happens. She falls in love with Ky, a childhood friend. This is completely forbidden however. He has an Aberration status, which means he can’t be matched with anyone. However, they fall in love and Xander has to accept it. They then run away together and never look back.

While Matched was about the government choosing for people, Hunger Games is a little different. In the Hunger Games, the government was very controlling. They picked students from each state (district) to have a fight to death. Why do they do this you might ask? No one knows. Some say they do it for power. Others say they do it for a sense of accomplishment. No one knows. Katniss however wins the Hunger Games with her other paired student, Peeta. They also fall in love even though Katniss has a best friend that is already in love with her. Her life just got real complicated real fast.

As you can see, these wonderful books have the same theme and plots. In both books, there are overruling governments. The governments are like queen bees in a bee hive. They overrule everyone. Another thing the books have in common is the love triangles.  In both these books there is 1 girl and 2 guys that are both in love with the girl.  In both books, the best friend does not get the girl. This fighting for love makes the book more interesting for young adult readers. Another thing these books have in common is that they both end up happy. Even though the girl is with the boy she never imagined she would be with, both books end up joyful and happy.

Obviously because of many similarities, these books have similar plots and themes. Katniss fell in love with her never heard of tribute while Cassia ended up falling in love with a childhood friend. Who knew? Love can be crazy at times and sometimes confusing. But it always ends up happily ever after.
