Essay Response to Book

                                                              TTYL

What if you had two best friends in the entire world but after one little mistake u lost them? This is what happened in the great book TTYL. Angela, Zoe and Maddie all stuck together even after a big mistake Maddie made. In this book, friendships are considered and some embarrassment in the making too but the girls all stay together. TTYL by Lauren Myracle obviously fits right in with the comic mode of literary.

To begin with, the TTYL plotline fits perfectly with comic mode plotline. It first begins with the three friends just instant messaging each other like they always do on a normal day. But, then Maddie causes a conflict with her friends. She gets into a big mistake at a party with one of her new friends and got very embarrassed. The conflict is then realized and everyone starts talking about what Maddie did at the party. Through this whole thing although, Maddies’ best friends, Zoe and Angela, are there for her and keep telling Maddie that they were there for her. However, she was just so embarrassed that she couldn’t talk to anymore for a while. A few weeks later, she comes around and talks to her friends about her conflict. Her new/ex friend Jana is now history and a resolution was made. They then go to back to a normal everyday life of them talking and giggling together like they always do. After this big problem, they told each other, they would always stick together as best friends, no matter what happens!

While the plotline of the comic mode of literary is very important, so is the symbolism and characteristics .First off, the characteristics. TTYL was very realistic because sometimes mistakes could happen to best friends, like in this book. It is also very realistic to make a big mistake at some party but either way your friends will always be there for you. Also, the main character was mostly in control but not always because of the party. She was at the beginning and the end of the book which was still okay. Also, there is the symbolism. One of the symbols of the comic mode of literature is a season, summer, which they had in this book. I know this because in the book the best friends talked about going swimming at the local public pool. Also, they just got back to school so it is still summer because they’re first day of school was in August. Another symbol was the actual times when the best friends instant messaged and talked to each other during the day. It was mostly midday or noon when the girls all talked so that also fits in completely with the comic mode of literature symbolism. One last symbol was a pet, Maddie’s dog. She would always talk about how she walks and plays with him, so that is also a symbol which is found in the comic mode of literature symbolism too.

As you can see, TTYL by Lauren Myrcale fits in perfectly with the comic mode of literary. The plotline, symbolism and characteristics all make it fit. The three best friends made it through the worst of times they ever had together but still got through it. They now know they can fight through anything and still be okay with each other. That is truly what best friends are for.
