Author’s Note: This is a predicting piece about the book, Where the Heart Is by Billie Letts. The purpose of this essay is one of my goals; to write 3 essays using quotes the right way. In this piece I use quotes and examples from the book that support my prediction.
According to an accurate poll taken, 40% of those people fell in love with their best friend without even knowing it. That number may seem like only a little, but if you think about it, it’s a big percent. This situation relates to Novalee Nation, in the book, Where the Heart Is by Billie Letts. Forney, Novalee’s best friend, is falling for Novalee, fast. But Novalee isn’t sure of her feelings for Forney yet. That’s why there are many reasons why I think Novalee will fall in love with Forney.
To start off with, my first reason why I think Novalee will fall in love with Forney is, that he is in love with her. Often when one person likes someone, that someone starts liking that one person. This relates to Forney. If he keeps being in love with her and giving her presents and what not, she could fall in love with him. He just has to make sure to treat her right and make sure no other guy falls in love with her. A quote that shows Forney is in love with Novalee is “Novalee, I wish you, uh…I want you, you and Americus.”(pg. 242) This quote shows that Forney wants to be with Novalee forever, and wants Novalee to love him back.
While Forney being in love with Novalee is a big reason why I think Novalee will fall in love with Forney, another really important reason is that Forney has always been there. What I mean by this is Forney has been with Novalee ever since the beginning of the book. He became her first friend, delivered her baby, and is the closest thing she has to a boyfriend. He’s stood by her through everything, they’re always together. If it was me who spent that much time with that one guy, I would fall in love with him!
Although Forney always being there for Novalee is a really good reason why I believe Novalee will fall for Forney, my last reason is most important. My last reason is that Forney was the first person she ever knew that actually cared for her. Novalee has always had an unstable family. No one’s ever cared what she did, or who she was with. Forney was the first person in her life that it felt like her life actually mattered to them. Forney makes sure Novalee is doing what’s right and what she needs to be doing. He is protecting her, like a good boyfriend would do. A quote that shows this is, “’You can live with me,’ Forney’s face reddened. ‘And my sister’ he added quickly. ‘Live with us at the library.’ ” (pg. 242) This quote shows Forney really cares about Novalee. It shows he wants to protect her in a time of need. He would be such a great boyfriend!
As you can see, all these reasons obviously explain why I predict Novalee will fall in love with Forney. He’s protective, cute, and stands by her side all the way. What’s not to love? Could Novalee be falling for Forney? You’ll just have to read Where the Heart Is to find out!
